A non-profit making community company has been granted funding from their local council.

Saltash Community Enterprises PL12 have been awarded £8,900 for the year to help set up their scrap store project, by Saltash Town Council.

The money will be used towards the appointment of a manager to help get the project underway.

The idea behind the scrapstore is that scrap materials and interesting safe recyclable waste products be donated and then groups, schools and individuals can come along and pay a nominal fee, still to be decided, to fill a shopping bag with whatever products they choose.

A facebook page has been set up requesting donations which has already had a positive response.

The community group had also asked for funding to convert the former Belle Vue toilets into storage rooms for the scrap products but this was refused at this month’s town council meeting.
