A NEW challenge has been launched by the Grand Bard of the Cornish Gorsedh to help 'put Cornwall on the map'.
Maureen Fuller, from Landrake, this week announced the Do Something for Cornwall initiative as St Piran's Day was celebrated across the county.
Mrs Fuller is hoping people in the county will take part in the challenge to 'promote Cornwall and support its distinctive culture' in areas of interest such as the Cornish language, history, archaeology, literature, music, song, dance, art and sport.
She appealed not only to Cornish people but to all those who love Cornwall to make the most of the recently-bestowed minority status and help put Cornwall on the map.
'We want everyone to be part of this important work and that is why we invite one and all to take up the challenge,' said Mrs Fuller.
The year-long initiative will include events staged by the gorsedh.
Mrs Fuller said: 'There are plenty of ideas on our Facebook page and on the Gorsedh Kernow website or you can come up with your own suggestions.
'If we are using our skills and knowledge for the benefit of our beloved Cornwall, we can be proud of our efforts to bring our precious culture to the notice of others. In that way, we really will be Doing Something for Cornwall!
'Participants are encouraged to take part in any way they can and to tell Gorsedh Kernow about it through the website and Facebook page, or by contacting bards in their local area by emailing enquiries@gorsedhkernow.
