PAINT-spraying vandals attacked a row of garages in Saltash at the weekend, causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage.
They left graffiti over the doors of 28 garages, one being covered in obscene words - and a black felt-tip pen was used to scrawl on the side of a 12-seater minibus. The majority of damage was thought to have occurred between Friday evening and 9am Saturday. At the same time a hospital sign at Port View was vandalised, as well as shop windows in St Stephens Road.
The attacks were described as 'mindless' by Sgt Steve Torr, who spoke of the need for a youth shelter for the town. He added that the funding is there, and a location has been found at Warfelton near the leisure centre.
Saltash councillor, Peter Stephens, said it is hoped that such damaging actions are nipped in the bud very quickly. Police have appealed for anyone with knowledge of who is responsible to contact them, even if it is anonymously. Their number is 0990 777 444 while the Crimestoppers number is 0800 555 111.
