A CALL has gone out to all Cornish dancing enthusiasts who might like to get hold of some authentic costume. Paul Dunbar, manager at the Cornish shop known as Gwynn ha Du, in Liskeard's Fore Street, has been given six 'gooks' by a lady who wishes them to go to a good home. For anyone who might be wondering, a gook is part of the traditional Cornish costume, a bonnet worn by Cornish women in the 19th century as can be seen in old photographs of bal maidens, fishermen's wives and fish jousters. The word is from the Cornish kogh, meaning a hood or bonnet. Any bona fide group trying to get a Cornish dance team together or a teacher who wants to promote Cornish dance in schools, is asked to see Paul at Gwynn ha Du, at 4, The Arcade Fore Street, or you can call him on 01579 347373.
