The long awaited new extension to the fish market can now be considered for grant aid, following a visit from David Ayres of MAFF and the Charity Com-missioners.
The good news was relayed to fishermen at the recent joint meeting between the Harbour Board and the Looe Fishermen's Protection Association, by Robert Newton (Harbour chairman), who said the permissions were now 95-98 per cent there.
The chairman described the proposed new facilities for ice making, storage and distribution, and Mr Mike Soady (Harbour vice chairman) described the new chiller facility which he said would be massive, taking around 90 pallets of fish.
Mr Billy Hocking (chairman LFPA) said the quality of the fish would be better as a result, and Mr Soady also asked if there was a possibility of chilling the whole market in the summer. Robert Newton said that providing there was enough money this idea could be achieved.
It was reported the extension would accommodate plenty of office space for the Fowey Port Health Authority and the Missions to Seamen who wanted new offices
