The British Heart Foundation (BHF) Junior Golf Championship 1999, approved by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, is now reaching its exciting finale.

On October 11 Looe Golf Club will be one of the top fundraising teams taking part in the prestigious National Final at The Celtic Manor PGA Cup Venue 2001. The top fundraising team from each BHF region play with the other teams on a non-competitive basis. The Final is supported by NEXT PLC.

Since the spring, talented young golfer~ from all ovet the UK llav~ beeu competing in the Championship. The Looe team have been working hard to raise as much money as possible, to help the BHF in its fight against heart and circulatory disease, the UK's biggest killer.

The teams will tee-off from 9.OOam at The Celtic Manor and the prize giving will take place at 4.OOpm. Finalists will win prizes kindly donated by NEXT PLC and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club. The Championship is supported by Golf Monthly.

Professional golfer and winner of the European Order of Merit, Colin Montgornerie supports the event and believes that, "All junior golfers should take part in this highly prestigious British Heart Foundation Junior Golf Championship. Play on superb courses, have fun and raise sponsor money for the British Heart Foundation"

24 Whitsand Bay Veterans played a 4-B-B-B Stableford on Tuesday. The winners were as follows: F Brelsford and J Trevail (48 pts), T Doyle and G Barrell (42 pts), P West and M Dyer (42).

On Friday, a two from three Stableford was played, with winners being: D Foster, P West and J Maddever (85 pts), R Jenkins, H Dyer and G Barrell (82), T Doyle, R Cook and H Pryn (81), D Rawlings, P Moore and D Nicholson (77).

Looe Vets entertained Killiow at home on Monday and Looe won 7-1.

On Thursday, the September Medal was played for and the honour was taken by Brian Taylor 89-20=69. Norman Allen came second with 88-17=71 followed by John Jones 91-20=71.

On Monday 6 September, the St Mellion International ladies' Section Ladies' Open was played, with Mrs Sue Oldfield winning the scratch prize with a gross 74.

1st handicap - Mrs Pat Lock, St Mellion 84-20-64; 2nd - Mrs Sally Thorne, Torquay 75-11-64; 3rd - Mrs Pat Warring, Looe 84-17-67; 4th - Mrs Stella Hancock, St Mellion 86-19-67; 5th - Mrs Thelma McEvoy, St Mellion 81-13-68.
