Golf- Richard and Nikki star in Looe Midsummer Madness
106 competitors assembled at Looe Golf Club on Sunday for a shot-gun start at 7.30am. The early morning start suited Richard and Nikki Brenton, who scored a massive 45 points just edging but Pete Kinver and Steve Hobbs with 44 points - only one point adrift in third place were Paddy Sleep and Terry Platt.
Special mention and congratulations to the Lady Captain Pat Hodge who has had a very successful week's golf and her partner Sheila Tilbrook who came in fifth place with 42 points.

Last weekend saw two popular competitions on Saturday the Bassett Shield was held, which is a better ball stableford competition for the over 50's (or those who admit to being over 50!). The event was won by Brian Horton and Alan Soady with 44 points closely followed by Danny Lewis and Mike Jackman, whilst Colin Payne and Tony Edwards headed a group on 42 points to take third place.
Sunday saw the annual Mixed Open Foursomes event. There was keen competition with a strong wind and the ground drying at the course proved a good test of golfing ability. After the morning round Steve and Penny Drake showed a clean pair of heels to be ahead of the field, but Mal Neale and Fran Hunn and Roger Catterall only two points behind. The afternoon nine holes, with 18 points saw Malcolm Neale and Fran Hunn come through to take the event by two points (with 53 points) with a strong finish from Roger Catterall and Sylvia Abbiss to take second place from Peter Tyler and Pat Warring and Steve and Penny Drake all a 51 points.

An individual stableford for Whitsand Bay Veterans Section was organised by Tom Cockran on Tuesday last. The ladies and men participated and winners were: ladies - Lorraine White 33 pts; Norman Jenkins 32; Carol West 28; Diana Barrell 26. Men - Reg Jenkins 38 pts; Dave Nicholson 37, Ben V Rogers 37; Peter West 37.

Whitsand Bay Veterans entertained St Austell on Friday last. The weather like the golf was excellent. there were eight pairs from each side competing the result being Whitsand five and a half, St Austell two and a half.
