Looe Golf club recently contested the August Medal, and warm, dry conditions greeted the 88 competitors. Tony Sweet not only headed Division Two, but also finished two shots clear, his nearest rival overall, Garry Lambert, who just edge out Jeff Mudd on the back nine in Division Two.
Scoring was not so heavy in Division One- Nigel Davis showed a good return to form with Brian Norman and Peter Higham in second and third places respectively.
In Division Three, Andy Allen finished well clear of Paul Faulkner who, in turn, finished strongly to see off the challenge of Dave Carnom and Martin Turner.

Lostwithiel Golf Club held their Mixed Open recently. The winners, with a total of 39 points, were Lydia Stevens and Dominic Laker (Lostwithiel), second place went to Dave Vine (Lostwithiel) and Kate Knuckey (Tehidy) with 37 points, third place went to Megan and Ray Sewell (Newton Abbott and Dawlish Warren) with 37 points, while fourth spot was taken by Chris Ruse and Paul Gerry (Lostwithiel), who finished with 36 points. The visitors prize was won by Dick and Sue Rogers (Tehidy). Congratulations to Lostwithiel's Mary Branchflower on scoring a hole in one of the fifth.
The Ladies' Open followed on Saturday 10th July and was playing in glorious weather, with the course in very good condition. The winners were the West Cornwall pairing of Elspeth Rogers and Esther Phillips with 41 points. Second place went to Bev Vann and Sue Rowarth, Chris Spry and Margaret Ware took third spot, while fourth place went to Juliet Hill and Pearl Carne.
Di Sobey won the Presidents Putter with a magnificent 43 points, while second on count-back was Lydia Stevens with 38 points. Gwen Cussons was another high-flyer, also with 38 points, putting her in third position.
The Merlin League matches are continuing, with wins against Porthpean at home and Merlin away, although the match at Praa Sands resulted in defeat for the visitors.
A friendly game was played against the seniors recently, and these are always enjoyable affairs. The winners were Gwen Cussons and Andrew Foot. A 'friendly' game was also played against the men, although the rules of these games are slightly different- the ladies have two courtesy shots and a 'chuck'. Sadly, then men were, once again, victorious.
The Ladies are holding a coffee morning on Tuesday 14th September at 10.00 am, with other ladies invited for coffee and to play golf for £2.
