Twenty-six teams took part in the annual charity golf tournament at the Whitsand Bay Golf Course.

Organised by Torpoint mayor Mike Pearn, the stableford team event was late starting due to the heavy rain, but improving weather meant all teams could complete the day.

There was a meal at the Whitsand Bay Hotel after the event, and presentations were made by club captain Alan House.

The Whitsand Bay Charity Champions for 2009 were the Whitsand Bay Warriors of Dr Benn Lines, Joe Hearn, Bob Evans and Ken Withers with 86 points.

The runners-up were the Vice + 3 team of Geoff Naylor, Marc Pacey, 'Arry' Arnold and Jason Heath with 85 points, ahead of Treble Chasers Pete Dawe, Steve Gill, Duncan Nobes and Simon Heesom with 81 points.

Prizes were also awarded for the longest drive on the ninth fairway to Duncan Nobes, nearest the pin on the tenth green to Dr Ben Lines and nearest the pin on the 18th green to C Sharp.

The event raised more than £1,000 for the Kidney Unit at Derriford Hospital and to Stuart House, who is competing in the World Transplant Games in Australia this August.

Torpoint mayor Mike Pearn said: 'I would like to thank all the golf players who made themselves available today for this most worthy event and raising so much with all their contributions.

'I would like to thank the Phillips family of the Whitsand Bay Hotel for providing the golf course to stage the event and allowing us to use the hotel facilities.

'It is through their generosity that the event is staged here.'
