IT has been a week of success for Looe Golf Club. Last Saturday their Plymouth Sound team fought well to defeat Staddon Heights by three games to two at Wrangaton Golf Club.

The team Barrie Evans, Ed Goodaire, Andy Rowe, John Nicholls, Murdo MacDonald, Keith Warren, Mike Morris and Richard Keith won a hard fought match - the Captain Tommy Hunn thanked all the players who had represented the club and the caddies and supporters who had been turning out for matches all summer.

The Ladies were not to be outdone, Min Green and Penny Drake won their latest game at Bowood (Wiltshire) and have now qualified to play in the final of the Daily Mail Foursomes Competition where they will be one of only 16 pairs nationwide to have qualified for the final which will be held at St Pierre G & CC in mid October. Well done girls and best of luck in the final.

On Wednesday in the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall Trophy event at Tehidy - Looe pair John Nicholls and Ian Hawke saw off the challenge from the rest of the County winning the event with 46 points. Bob Deacon and Colin Mutton, Looe's other representatives finished a creditable third.

The annual Lady Captain v Lady Secretary match took place on Saturday 16th September. The format for this event is singles match play. The winning team receive a handsome Shield presented by the losing side.

The match was not exactly played in the true spirit of the game, there being much good natured bantering and heckling by both teams, the end result being a good win for the Lady Secretary's team. The winning team were then treated to their tea by the losing side, much fun was had by all.

The teams were Lady Captain Lesley Pool, Paula Coleman, Jackie Klag, Sue Bytham and Julia Robson. Opposing them were Lady Secretary Cathy Burchell, Joy Mcpherson, Alison Worne, Jacqueline Wheeler, Kath Botterell. Congratulations to the winners and commiserations to the losers.
