A LETTER to the editor in the Cornish Times a couple of months ago inviting people to take part in a special walk for Breast Cancer Care, has led to a Looe man taking up the challenge. Giles Lane (38), lost his sister Sheree to cancer seven years ago, and ever since then has been promising himself he would like to do something worthwhile in her memory. He contacted Outdoor Pursuits, the walk organisers, and on Saturday he will be joining other groups of people who will be walking up Ben Nevis in Scotland, Britain's highest point. The four and a half mile walk up the 1 in 5 gradient is forecast to take five hours, with a faster three hour walk back down. Giles, the new manager at Intek Communications of Looe, has been in training ever since he heard his application to join the walk had been accepted. He has been walking to Polperro and Talland and up and down the town's very own Ben Nevis - West Looe Hill! Each walker has been asked to raise £468, but Giles has now raised just over £1,000. He left for Scotland yesterday and will be travelling back to Looe on Sunday. Anyone wishing to sponsor Giles' Ben Nevis walk for Breast Cancer Care can do so by dropping donations into Intek or contacting him on 07834 465429
