MAKE this Saturday a date for your diary and join local fundraisers at Siblyback Lake near Liskeard.

The Relay For Life team are staging their final event of the year - a Rainbow Ribbon Walk from 1pm-4pm. They hope that you’ll join them as they look to beat their target of an amazing £25,000 for Cancer Research UK.

There’s also still a few days left to take part in a creative competition being run, with the closing date set for the day of the walk on September 25.

Whatever medium you enjoy making and creating in, you’re invited to join in. There are three categories to choose from: Relay for Life (recreate the Relay in whichever way you like); Purple – use the colour as inspiration; and Hope.

Any type of creative work is welcome from crochet or carpentry to singing, dancing or putting pen to paper, says Alex Putna of the Relay committee.

Participants should photograph their work and send the images to [email protected] and make a donation on the website at https://relay.cancerresearch.uk.org/goto/relaycreativecompetition

Saturday’s Rainbow Ribbon Walk will feature a fun treasure hunt for children and adults, whilst highlighting a wide variety of the different cancers represented by the coloured ribbons along the route.

There’ll also be the Relay For Life stall at the main car park, with different games and activities to enjoy.

“It’s been another incredible year of support in what has still been a difficult year for people to come together,” said Alex. “But we are staggeringly close to smashing our target of £25,000, so it would be fantastic to have folks join us in these last events.”

Alex (pictured right) and her fellow fundraisers Steve and Richard from the Pensilva Posse and Mixed Allsorts teams had a sunny and successful collection over Bank Holiday Weekend at The Great Estate Festival.

Thanks to festival-goers, traders and stewards who supported their efforts, the Relayers came home from West Cornwall with £1,200 to add to the total.
