Gardeners at Cotehele are planning the annual daffodil weekend on Saturday and Sunday, March 18 and 19.
‘Daffodils are a welcome sight after the long winter,’ said Cotehele Head Gardener Dave Bouch. ‘We have 250 varieties here at Cotehele and we like to take a weekend each March to celebrate them. This year we’re planning the annual traditional daffodil displays, plus we’re going to do something new for a bit of fun.’
In the last two years the Cotehele team have decorated the archway into Hall Court with 3,000 daffodils. This year eight local gardening enthusiasts will add their expertise to the weekend and create daffodil sculptures around the garden.
Daffodil weekend offers a chance for garden lovers and families to see Cotehele’s collection of historic daffodils, including 200 year-old heirloom varieties.
A garden tour highlighting the different varieties of daffodils will take place on both Saturday and Sunday at 2pm.
The Packing Shed will be decorated with thousands of daffodil blooms to celebrate the Tamar Valley AONB Heralds of Spring project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund to record and raise awareness of the special historic daffodil varieties growing in the Tamar Valley landscape .
Daffodil festivities run from 11am-4pm each day and Cotehele’s gardens are open from dawn until dusk.
