A plant which flowers only once in its lifetime will be a special surprise for visitors during a tour of gardens in the Tamar Valley.
Puya Chilensis can take up to 20 years to flower, and seeing it bloom is a ‘rare and wonderful treat’ say organisers of the St Dominick Garden Safari.
The event, on Saturday, June 17, will feature seven gardens in the parish, the exact locations of which are revealed in a brochure and map available from the post office.
The range of gardens represented is diverse, but all have something special to attract visitors, said one of the organisers, Diana Green.
‘We are pleased to say that we have some exciting new gardens to see in the parish, as well as a couple of the gardens that featured last time,’ added a St Dominick Festivities Group spokesperson.
During the event, tea and cake will be served on the lawn of historic Halton Barton with its views of the Tamar.
