IT is hoped a new gaming centre will help regenerate part of a town centre after being given approval by Caradon District Council. Planning permission was granted for Liskeard Leisure to open new premises in Lower Fore Street, Saltash – despite some opposition from residents. Saltash Town Council had said the application should be refused because of a potential increase in noise. A petition was also signed by 40 residents who raised concerns about parking and noise. However, Caradon councillors approved the plans after they were told the company had received no complaints regarding noise from its other centre in Liskeard and that parking would not be a problem because of sufficient public transport. 'I would like to think we are a responsible outfit,' said Jason Frost, owner of Liskeard Leisure. Adult 'I think the objections are down to public perception of what they believe an adult gaming centre to be.' Mr Frost added that once the gaming centre is open and people can see the business and its benefit to the town, public perception will change. 'Lower Fore Street has some derelict shops and it definitely needs a cash injection,' he said. Liskeard Leisure aims to recruit local people to help run the centre, which will be for over-18s only and is expected to open by February.
