Saltash Chamber's February meeting at the China Fleet Club was one of the liveliest on record.

Sandy Williams and Glynn Webster from Caradon Council suggested how the traders in the town could make their premises more user-friendly to those with pushchairs and wheelchairs and Sandy introduced a scheme whereby financial help could be made available.

'It is perhaps more urgent in Saltash because of the topography of the town. Locals know that traders make every effort to help but some practical changes could go a long way to making the town more user friendly.' he said.

Louise Cox outlined the possible areas of co-operation with Saltash Partnership; in particular the idea of jointly marketing the Partnership's Heritage Trail map with the Chamber's proposed Saltash Traders' Map.

Chamber members warmly endorsed the bid to the Single Regeneration Budget for part funding of this very important tool for Saltash. Secretary, Ken Martin, who is preparing the bid, said: 'We have funding commitments from Caradon and the Chamber is also putting in a substantial amount. Advertising will also bring in revenue and the SRB support will enable us to go ahead in time to meet the Summer season. This is a tremendous opportunity to market the diversity of shopping in Saltash."

Other subjects discussed included the mixed position on the new rateable values, the bridge and Eurobell beginning work in Fore Street at the end of February and the Chamber's reaction to the about to be published report on Saltash Regeneration.

Six new members have recently been added and anyone interested in joining should contact Ken Martin on 01752 847623, Bruce Reid in his shop or Bob Frost at Pioneer Electronics on the trading estate.
