THE seafront should be considerably brightened up for the summer season, as the East Looe Town Trust begin to press forward with their refurbishment plans as part of the project to keep upgrading the area over the next few years. To begin with there will be new bollards, lighting, more seating of a different design from those presently sighted, new railings and litter bins. The Trust have held several meetings recently to formulate the plans and have also met with Caradon's Conservation Officer, David Moore to choose a colour scheme which will eventually be used in any future improvements throughout the town, which will be black and gold. The Trust's new consultant for the short term, Wally Scarah, says some of the funding for the improvements will be sourced from the sale of the Albatross site on the seafront to the RNLI, for the building of the new lifeboat house. This is possible because it is part of the capital fund which comprises funds raised from the sale of property previously purchased by the Trust. However, the Trust, which is a charity, is not able to use money from the endowment fund, which is the property which was left to them. To make sure everyone in Looe has a chance to see and have their say about the new colours and designs for seafront furnishings, a Caradon display van will be visiting the town sometime before Christmas as part of the Trust's public consultation. 'We want people to be happy with what we are proposing for their town,' said Mr Scarah.
