Our grand-daughter, Sophie, lost her fight against leukaemia on December 29, 1998, aged just nine. It was surprising to learn that these specialised hospitals need a lot more funding for research into this killer disease and rely mainly on the generous contributions from the public.

Ian Botham is undertaking a walk from John O'Groats to Lands End, starting on October 11 and hopefully arriving at Lands End about the middle of November - dates to be confirmed - to raise funds for Leukaemia Research. Ian has completed seven walks for Leukaemia Research and this will be the second time he has covered Britain 'top to toe'.

We, in turn, are planning to hold an event from 10.00am to 3.00pm on Thursday, November 4, at the Liskeard Methodist Hall, Bay Tree Hill, Liskeard, to raise some funds. This will include coffee, light lunches, raffle, bring and buy/trading stalls.

Our appeal is for anyone who has either lost a dear one or has any connection whatsoever, whether an organisation or private person, who would be willing to help us in any way to raise funds for research into this awful disease.
