AN APPEAL has been launched to repair a chapel roof and keep a building at the heart of its village open.
Polperro Methodist Chapel, opened in 1904, is the home of the Polperro Fishermen’s Choir and in pre-Covid times, the venue for many community events. It’s also the collection point for the local Foodbank.
But the chapel now needs major repairs to the roof and the fabric of the building at an estimated cost of £50,000.
Fundraising has been long-ongoing to ensure the longevity of this iconic building and maintain it as a centre of spiritual support. But due to the lockdowns over the past year, this has not been able to continue, and wider support is now needed. Two women from the village, Kathy Hebbs and Angela Searle, have set themselves the massive task of raising the full amount by the end of this year.
They said: “Now that Covid restrictions are gradually being lifted, we are aiming to return to organising our community lunches, bazaars, sales and so on, which benefit the whole village and surrounding areas. The choir has offered to help in any way they can.”
If anyone can help with a donation, no matter how small, please go to: https://gofund.me/2ec05df3 or help by just sharing the page, and the Polperro Chapel Facebook page, to spread the news.
