A historic house is the venue for a fund-raising event for Children’s Hospice South West.

Mary Newman’s Cottage, the Grade 11 listed cottage in Saltash owned and run by Tamar Protection Society, is hosting an open house and garden event on June 24.

The cottage, once home to Sir Francis Drake’s first wife, is the oldest building in Saltash. It dates back to around 1480 and has furniture and utensils from that period.

The garden is laid out in authentic Elizabethan style, showcasing the plants and herbs vital to a household of that era.

Zoe Partridge, community fund-raiser for CHSW said: ‘The open day provides a wonderful opportunity to look around both the cottage and the garden. Allow yourselves to be transported back in time for a few hours whilst helping raise funds for the work of CHSW.’

Mary Newman’s Cottage and Garden will be open from 12-4pm , with teas, coffees and cream teas available. Entry will be by donation, which will go directly to CHSW.
