REVELLERS from all over South East Cornwall, including Liskeard, Callington, Saltash and many of the villages are all set to head for Looe on New Year's Eve to welcome in the year 2001.
The town is in the top three venues in the whole of the country as the best place to be at the stroke of midnight.
Every year the fancy dress party in the streets of Looe gets bigger and better and because this year's planned New Year street party in Liskeard is not now going ahead, people from the town will be pouring into Looe's already overcrowded car parks to enjoy the fun.
This year Looe town council is supplying £1,500 worth of fireworks to announce the year 2001 with a bang on the seafront at midnight, and just before the spectacle, a large bonfire is to be lit on the beach, courtesy of the East Looe Town Trust, and organised by councillor Colin Shore.
The pubs are all getting ready for the onslaught, but as this year's celebrations fall on a Sunday, the licensing restrictions on the selling of alcohol do not extend beyond 12.30am.
