THERE is to be free parking throughout Cornwall in council-run car parks on Saturday, May 19, to support the Olympic torch celebrations.

Cornwall Council has agreed to make it a 'park for free' day which has been well received, especially in towns such as Liskeard and Saltash which are on the main torch relay route and planning celebrations.

Liskeard's deputy mayor Lori Reid said: 'I think this shows a generous spirit on behalf of Cornwall Council in understanding the needs of the towns and the people on this important day.

'I hope in the future this gesture may lead to further discussions about the parking problems in our town.'
