A new arts project has been launched for 12- to 18-year-olds in Looe featuring sculpture, music, storytelling and performance as part of a series of free summer workshops run by Play It Again Theatre.

Kilminorth Assembles takes the ancient feature of the Giant’s Hedge in Kilminorth Woods as its inspiration.

Young people will create artwork, share stories and produce an outdoor performance to be staged for local families in August.

Later in the year, the sculptures installed among the trees will form the backdrop to food foraging walks along the Giant’s Hedge, says Play It Again’s Claire Patrick.

‘The six-month project that we have designed will give around 30 young people the chance to gain qualifications and skills in the arts.

‘These free workshops will include playing Celtic instruments, dance, singing, willow sculptures, British Sign Language and Cornish language. There will then be a Big Summer Week during the school holidays when the participants will create outdoor promenade theatre performances.’ Workshops will be on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
