new officer

THE new community officer responsible for Fowey and St Sampson parish is WPC Della James.

From October 2 she has been working three days per week, her main role being being footpatrol in the town and assisting with community related issues and any problems arising from these. She can be contacted at St Blazey police station (tel 01726 812262).

Meeting on

port matters

FOWEY port revenue from the leisure sector for the financial year ending March 2000 totalled £182,862 - a rise of eight per cent on the previous year.

The Fowey Harbour Commissioners are to hold an open meeting for all those with an interest in the harbour on November 8 at 7.30pm in the town hall.

The Commissioners, together with members of staff, will be available to discuss matters relating to the harbour. They would welcome specific questions on the annual report, and the operations and policies in managing the harbour.

Fowey Hall

plan approved

A PROPOSAL to extend the children's den and erect gates and replace windows with doors at Fowey Hall, Hanson Drive is among plans approved by Restormel councillors.

The councillors have also given the delegated go-ahead for a 15 sectored column mast to accommodate antennae and two microwave dishes to be put up at Pullington Farm, Lostwithiel and a dwelling to be retained at Orchard View, Torfrey, Golant without compliance with a condition regarding agricultural occupancy.

Happy gardener

THE speaker at the October meeting of Fowey and district fuchsia society was Harry Colclough of Devon who spoke on the 'Travels of a Happy Gardener'.

The society meets on the second Monday of each month at 7.30pm at Fowey primary school.

Converting to

solar power

NAVIGATIONAL aids in the River Fowey are to be converted to solar power, including St Catherine's lighthouse at the harbour mouth.

The Fowey Harbour Commissioners have also said the power supply, by a vulnerable overhead cable from Readymoney Cove, is being replaced, in conjunction with the National Trust, to protect 'and enhance the environment of Covington Woods.'

Enquiries

have risen

THE number of enquiries, both over the phone and the counter, at Fowey Tourist Information Centre, based at the town's main post office, has increased over the past year.

Lynn Goold, of Fowey TIC, said the staff have also increased the number of bed bookings made in the general area.

They are now taking registrations for the 2001 accommodation list. All those received by October 30 will be eligible to appear in the printed accommodation list, which is used by customers at the counter, and mailed out to enquirers.

Autumn auction

THE RNLI in Fowey will be holding their annual autumn auction in the King of Prussia on Saturday October 21.

This follows on from the family open day, held in August, which more than 250 people attended.

Fimbarrus

collections

COLLECTIONS during services at St Fimbarrus church, Fowey in August totalled £2,389.95, visitors also giving £262.65 by way of collecting boxes.

A coffee morning raised £223 for church funds and the organ appeal benefited by a further £605.50.
