Diamond wedding

A couple who ran a shoe shop and leather repair business in Lostwithiel for 30 years have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

Tom and Dora Stick, whose Queen Street premises still bear their name, now live in Lancashire but returned last week to join 50 friends, relatives and former employees in a slap-up lunch at Lostwithiel community centre.

Tom, originally from St Blazey married Dora, from Cardinham, in the village's Methodist Church in 1940 and spent the next two years in Northern Ireland where Tom was in the RAOC.

When he was involved in the D Day landings Dora returned to Cardinham to teach, and after the war the couple moved to Lostwithiel to start the footwear shop.

During their time in the town they were active members of town organisations, Tom being chair of the Chamber of Commerce and vice chair of the local Old Cornwall Society, and Dora held offices in the W.I. including president and secretary. They enjoyed meeting old friends at the special lunch and asked for donations, in lieu of presents, to be made to the Cornwall Air Ambulance, which raised over £300 for the charity.
