Having managed Jewson League Saltash for the past six weeks chairman Mike Howard has stepped aside following the appointment of former Liskeard joint manager Mike Doel.

Howard said this week that the club had advertised the vacant managerial position following the departure of Lee Cooper but until Doel threw his name into hat he felt that no one who had come forward had been really suitable.

"Mike hasn't a great deal of managerial experience but he has a lot going for him", said Howard. "He's a bubbling character who has been around the Western and South Western League circuits for a number of seasons. He knows the players and they have great respect for him.

"It's a new opportunity for him here at Saltash."

Having been in charge for seven games Howard has an unbeaten record as Saltash have won five and drawn two under his managership.

Tomorrow (Saturday) they entertain St Blazey (2.30) with Doel in charge for a first time. The club have this week submitted a seven days notice of approach for St Blazey's Darren Gilbert.

Liskeard meanwhile entertain title favourites Falmouth Town tomorrow (2.30) with manager Chris Burchell quick to quash any rumours of discontent among his squad following the departure of joint manager Mike Doel.

"Contrary to whispers that I've heard regarding problems, the club remains in an upbeat mood", he said. "There is no crisis here. Okay Mike has left us and we wish him well but as a club we have a job to get on with. I have taken over as manager again and I have no problem with that. With regard an assistant we shall just have to wait and see but there are plenty of soccer minded people around who are only too willing to help me in any way or form."

For tomorrow's clash with Falmouth, Liskeard have submitted two seven day notices of approach - one for a goalkeeper the other for a left sided midfield player.

"I cannot approach them until Friday but I'm hoping both will sign", said Burchell. "Falmouth are a top side and it will be difficult for us but the lads are up for it and I am confi-dent we can produce a good showing."
