Launceston were defending their unbeaten home record against the current league leaders St Dennis, knowing that only a win would be good enough.
They started well and had the majority of the possession in the first 20 minutes, with Andy Hunt causing the visitor's defence a few worries. Mickey Fariday and Andrew Slateford had half-chances but nothing clear-cut could be produced. Launceston began to edge their way back into the game and went one-nil up after 35 minutes when a poor pass in midfield was intercepted and the counter-attack was quick and incisive.
The home side equalised when Sean Johns headed home a John Endacott cross after 10 minutes of the restart. They continued to press for a second goal, but it never came although the pressure was theirs. Then, late in the game as they stepped up their search for the winner, St Dennis were caught twice on the counter-attack, with the first coming again from a poor pass which was intercepted.
The difference between the two sides was that St Dennis knew what they wanted to do with the ball as soon as they won it, while Launceston needed more time to think about their options. Launceston's undefeated home record is now gone, as is any chance of winning the league. Quite simply, the likes of St Dennis and Liskeard drop very few points in a season, and many believe that Liskeard will do enough to finish on top.
