SALTASH Foodbank managers say they are expecting a rise in the number of people asking for help in the wake of benefit changes that have been recently introduced.
Co-ordinator Rika Chanter said that there had been a small increase in numbers using the foodbank over the past few years for many reasons, not always benefits-related, as more than 10 per cent of clients are from working households.
With further benefit changes such as Universal Credit, changes to child tax credit and others affecting more working people that are on low wages, the foodbank expects this number to increase in the future.
Saltash Foodbank has been operating a drop-in service for over five years, and nearly 4,000 people have been helped over this time.
For the past year the bank has been based at 18 Belle Vue Road, supported by local churches and the community.
