Cornwall County Association's concluding rounds (last l6), of the County Mixed Pairs Championship, were contested at the Trewoon Social Club, St Austel1.
The playing format consisted of the best of three legs of 501 with a flying start. Flynn Jones from the Standard Inn,Torpoint recorded the only maximum 180 during the evening. After many closely fought games the final proved to be between last years champions, Flynn Jones and Lynn Rust (Standard Inn, Torpoint) and Sylvia and Harry Griffin (Dobsons A.F.C, Liskeard). Flynn and Lynn took the first leg with Sylvia and Harry levelling the match when winning the second. But Flynn and Lynn won the third and deciding leg to retain the County Mixed Pairs Title and take the Championship Cup back to Torpoint.
Results - Ouarter finals: K.Bate and C.Bate (Molesworth Arms, Wadebridge), beat C. Chapman and G.Wills (Redruth Albany R.F.C.) 2-0.
B.Furse and N.Furse (London Inn, Kilkhampton) beat L. Johns and M. Sullivan, Rashleigh Arms, Charlestown) 2-0.
L.Rust & F.Jones (Standard Inn) beat M.Haley and C.Sibley (Dobsons) 2 - 0.
S. Griffin and H. Griffin, (Dobsons), beat C. Paddock and C.Combes (Famous Firkin, Newguay) 2 - 1.
Semi-finals: - Lynn Rust and Flynn Jones (Standard Inn, Torpoint) beat Brian and Nikki Furse London Inn,Kilkhampton) by 2-0.
Sylvia and Harry Griffin, (Dobsons) beat Kit and Chris Bate, Molesworth Arms,Wadebridge 2-1.
Final: - Lynn Rust and Flynn Jones defeated Sylvia and Harry Griffin 2 - 1.
The C.C.D.A. President, Mr Peter Mutton (Dobwalls) presented all the Certificates, Trophies plus the runners-up and Championship Cups and the M.C. for the evening was Mr Terry Hoskin of Wadebridge, the C.C.D.A. Fixture Secretary.
