A young girl's dream of winning a design award became reality this week when textile design student Sarah Press, a Year 9 pupil at Liskeard School and Community College, received first prize in a countywide competition. It was to design a flower girl's dress as part of a prestigious launch of a new couture bridal and fashion accessory collection. The prize and certificate were presented by the mayor of Truro at the launch on Monday evening. Several Year 9 (13 and 14 year olds) textile students from the college were entered for the competition by technology department teacher Jacquie Hannan. The youngsters were told to come up with a unique design inspired by the romance and elegance of years gone by, while being both traditional and fashionable. Sarah's work was heralded as a significant achievement and design accolade for one so young. Her work was acknowledged as exceptional and artistic, perfectly capturing the era of romance and tradition.
