THE Chat Link Centre in Macey Street, Torpoint saw the first meeting of a new support group this week. The group supports people with heart problems, their families and carers. Jacqui Dore, who organised and chairs the group, was born with a heart defect herself and has had numerous heart operations throughout her life. She was training as a social worker, but a heart attack five years ago curtailed this. She has also done voluntary work with St John Ambulance and Hearing Concern. Jacqui, 56, hopes her experiences will bring first hand knowledge to the group. She said: 'We are sponsored by HeartSWell charity, based at Derriford Hospital and will offer practical advice. 'Once discharged from hospital, people are left to their own devices, apart from visits to their doctor. 'We will give people the opportunity to talk about their concerns and give them advice.' There are disabled facilities at the centre and refreshments will be provided. The group will meet on the second Tuesday of each month from 10am - noon. Information on access to other professional help will be given. Leaflets and brochures are available, covering all types of heart problems, with healthy living promoted. For more information you can contact Jacqui at Chat Link on 01752 812020 or home on 813722. The next meeting will be on Tuesday February 14 at 10am. The group is open to anyone in South East Cornwall and includes as far as Liskeard and Saltash.
