A CHANCE to see fire-fighting skills up close will take place next weekend. Callington fire station is holding an open day which will include a demonstration from firefighters from Callington and fire cadets from Saltash. The day will also include a visit from the Westcountry Ambulance Service and the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. 'Anyone visiting the station can also sign up for a free home safety check,' said station officer Kevin Rookley. 'This will involve a visit in the near future when we will ensure that homes have working smoke alarms.' He added: 'This is the community's fire station and we hope that as many people as possible in our local community will pay us a visit.' Money raised from the day will be donated to the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund.
