FIREFIGHTERS in Saltash have said a huge thankyou to their watch manager who has served his last day on call at the community fire station.

Andy Jones served for 16 years as a retained firefighter at Saltash Fire station, and in 2009 also became wholetime with the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service.

While Andy will no longer be woken in the early hours by his bleeper, he will still be seen in his fire van around Saltash as he continues in the role of Watch Manager Protection (Fire Safety).

His fellow crew members said: ’On behalf of everyone at Saltash Fire Station we would like to say thank you to Watch Manager Andy Jones

’Enjoy not running off during your Sunday Roast, enjoy not being woken in the early hours , enjoy not having to run out of Lidl with a full trolley - and most of all enjoy the extra time with your family. You deserve it mate!’
