AN OPEN day will be the chance for people in Callington to find out how hyperfast broadband is being rolled out in the area.
The event on Saturday, September 18, is being staged by Cornish provider Wildanet.
Later this year, homes and businesses in the town and surrounding area will be able to benefit from gigabit speeds (1,000 megabits per second) roughly 40 times faster than the average download speeds currently available in Cornwall.
The event (from 9am to 4pm in Callington Town Hall) will include free refreshments throughout the day, a GT Pro Race Car Simulator (with prizes for the top three fastest laps), huge early-bird discounts on the new fibre broadband service, and the chance to win two years of free home broadband.
Wildanet is also hosting a separate Business Breakfast this Friday morning (Sep 10), for any local businesses interested in finding out more about the new fibre roll-out and how the improved speeds can benefit their business.
Earlier this year, Liskeard-based Wildanet marked the start of its £50 million investment in a new broadband network for Cornwall by commencing work in its hometown and the surrounding PL14 postcode areas.
Extending the network to Callington is its next major phase of work.
Justin Clark, General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of Wildanet, said: “This is an incredibly exciting next step for us to be announcing Callington as the next major town in Cornwall to have its internet speeds transformed.
“Fast, reliable broadband is a given for many parts of the UK and yet there remain too many areas in Cornwall which are struggling with their connectivity.
“We want families and businesses to have the broadband they need and deserve for the huge range of online activities we have become so dependent upon in our everyday lives.”
