A goal at each end of this Cup clash by Rachel Finch earned Torpoint Athletic their first victory of the season – and a trip to Poole Town in the first round of the competition.

The Tamarsiders took the lead in the fifth minute when Finch ran on to a ball over the top to fire home.

Charlestown looked lively up front, and goalkeeper Rebecca Annear was in superb form to deny the visiting forwards with some terrific saves.

The only time she was beaten, the ball rebounded off a post to safety.

In the second period, Charlestown continued to make fast breaks; one of those led to Torpoint midfielder Zara Northey injuring her arm and the game was held up for some time.

Another breakaway for-ced Annear into another save, only for Jodie Bray to follow up and equalise.

With time running out, the hosts pushed for the winner and were rewarded with a penalty.

Kirsty Lambert wriggled her way into the penalty area, only to be felled, leaving Finch to convert the

resulting spot-kick and earn Torpoint the victory.
