Durning Lawrence Cornwall Charity Cup first round Liskeard 4 Penryn 3 A DEPLETED Blues' defence found themselves two goals down in the opening 25 minutes of this Durning Lawrence Cornwall Charity Cup first round tie at Lux Park on Tuesday night. Liskeard had second-team central defenders Ian Stacey and Nick Carpenter playing at the heart of their defence, and although they started the tie well, they found themselves a goal down after only seven minutes. Adam Trudgian went over, very easily, under challenge from Robbie Herrera in the penalty box and all of Liskeard's protests came to nothing as Matt Drummond coolly tucked away his spot-kick. The Division One West side doubled their lead when Trudgian's shot was blocked, but it spun up into the air to drop into the Blues' net via the underside of the crossbar. The home side required a response before the break – and they got it – when Liam Hapgood sent over a great cross that found Dominic Richardson heading home at the back post. Penryn found themselves under pressure at the start of the second half and it was no more than Liskeard deserved when James Miller evaded two challenges before firing in a shot that took a deflection on its way past goalkeeper Andy Butcher. Good work by Chris Wright and Dave Woodfield set up the pacy Hapgood to score with a fierce drive from 12 yards to give the Blues a 63rd-minute lead. If the home crowd thought the job was done, then they were given a rude awakening as a long ball out of defence found Drummond evading the challenge of Nick Skinner before crashing the ball into the roof of the home net from 20 yards. Liskeard responded in the only way possible as a great five-man move found the tireless Jimmy Alexander drilling a low shot past Butcher's outstretched right hand for a fitting winner.
