YOUNGSTERS have scored a hit on the internet with a song about the Torpoint Ferry.

The song, sung by the reception and Year 2 classes at Torpoint Nursery and Infant School, was first performed at the children's Christmas show.

Headteacher Elisabeth Carney-Haworth said: 'The Torpoint Ferry Song must be our most popular Christmas song ever. If you live in Cornwall, the ferry is part of your life, and in Torpoint it is an icon.

'This was an affectionate and cheeky tribute to our ferry, which the audience instantly related to and understood the humour. The next day the song was the talk of the town!'

The song was written by teacher Andrew Painter, with some input from colleague Nicola Cardew and the headteacher. Governor and parent Jeremy Lock uploaded the song to the YouTube internet site after a lot of people said it should be shared with everyone.

Lines from the song include 'We're always last car off', 'We're queuing at the lights' and 'The longest seven minutes of our lives'.

The song has had more than 2,600 hits on YouTube.
