Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the A374 at Torpoint last Friday, October 7, are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a black Renault Clio and a black Kia Rio at around 2.30pm.

As a result of the collision, a 19-year-old male was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

Four other people were also injured and were taken to Derriford Hospital for treatment.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson confirmed: “A woman in her 80s from the Torpoint area sustained life-threatening injuries.

“A man, also in his 80s from the Torpoint area, sustained a number of fractures.

“A man in his late teens, from Newcastle, sustained serious arm and spinal injuries.

“A man in his 20s sustained minor injuries.”

Officers from the Roads Policing Team and Serious Collision Investigation Team attended to conduct a thorough investigation to establish how the collision occurred.

The road was handed to highways at around 1am on Saturday 8 October.

The spokesperson added: “A 20-year-old man from Newcastle was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.”
