A proposal to replace existing poultry houses at Horizon Farm, Tremar, and include a new manure shed, egg packing shed and silos was due to be discussed last night (Thursday) by Caradon councillors.
The application, which has prompted three objections from neighbours, is a resubmission of a proposal which was refused in February last year. It proposes replacing three of the older poultry houses on the front portion of the site with two replacement units. Officers have told councillors the building will occupy approximately the same land on site, but will be significantly higher, the ridge height being raised from 6.5m to 11m.
It was said the applicant considered there would be no increase in the amount of traffic to the site, and could even result in a reduction. The applicant has also confirmed that a barn production method would be adopted, this meaning a fall in stock levels, and the introduction of the latest technology, which would bring about environmental benefits.
The officers said the whole complex has been the 'subject of considerable environmental monitoring by the council', and added that the access remains a concern. Officers had recommended approval, subject to conditions.
