Sister Carol Conn has retired from Passmore Edwards Hospital at Liskeard where she has worked continuously since l976.
Carol, who had been nursing since l967, started her career at Passmore Edwards in January l969 but was seconded to Lamellion Hospital, firstly on nights, and then was tasked with the organisation and opening of the day unit in l975, which has gone from strength to strength.
She transferred back in l976 to Passmore Edwards to work in casualty and outpatients, and became a major lynch pin in the organisation. A spokesperson for Cornwall Healthcare NHS said: 'Carol has always been known for her humour. She has a way of brightening even the most miserable of days. She is calm under pressure and has untold patience.'
More recently she has been one of the major advisors in the setting up of minor injuries units throughout Cornwall.
Her farewell 'do' was a night to remember at Liskeard sports club which included a ceilidh, a comedian and boys from the local ambulance station who performed the 'three quarters Monty'.
She has said she will now relax and enjoy her garden.
