A TEENAGE girl has become the fourth generation of her family to join the Royal Navy. A former pupil of Torpoint Community College, Hannah Royle is following in the footsteps of her great-grandfather, great-uncle and both parents. The 18 year old, who joined the Royal Navy in October, has just completed her eight weeks of initial training course at HMS Raleigh in her home town. Hannah's father Anthony is a Royal Navy warrant officer master-at-arms, who is also serving at HMS Raleigh, where he is a divisional training officer. Hannah said: 'I wanted a challenging career, which would give me skills in a new trade and the chance to work as a team with different people from different backgrounds. 'The pay is good and with the ability to travel around the world, everyday is new. I really enjoyed training, even though at times it was tough. 'I feel I've learned a lot about myself and made lots of new friends who will be missed as we now go our separate ways.' Warrant officer Royle joined the Royal Navy in 1978 following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Cyril Cope, who served during World War Two and uncle, Ronald Cope, who served during the 1970s and 1980s. Having originally joined as a seaman (operator), he transferred to the Service police in 1983. Hannah's mum, Denise, spent six years in the Royal Navy as a chef, before leaving the Service having become pregnant with her elder daughter, Katie. Both parents were on hand at HMS Raleigh to watch Hannah during her passing-out-parade. Dad Anthony said: 'My wife and I were really pleased when Hannah decided to choose the Royal Navy as a career. 'Hannah has always been adventurous and gained many accolades in sport and adventurous training events. 'Earlier this year Katie graduated from Plymouth University with a BSc(Hons), which, as parents, made us very proud. 'We are equally proud of Hannah as she "passes- out" of her phase one training and prepares to start her new chosen career as a stores accountant. Her family and friends wish her well.' With her initial training complete, Hannah will remain at HMS Raleigh to undergo her 12-week professional stores accountant training.
