A COUPLE who met at Callington Honey Fair more than 50 years ago celebrated their golden wedding at their home in Saltash on Saturday. Clifford and Jenefer Tookey spent their day at home with friends and relations before having a meal at the Weary Friar, Pillaton, next door to the church where they were married. Clifford, 73, was born in Saltash and attended North Road School, leaving at the age of 14 to work as a delivery man for Saltash Co-operative Society. Later, he worked at a mink farm at Burraton Coombe for a short time, before he became a salesman for Bennett's Radio and TV shop in Saltash for ten years. Clifford was also a part-time fireman and completed 22 years in Saltash Fire Brigade. Jenefer was born in Forder and later went to live at Botus Fleming. She attended Callington Grammar School and, on leaving at 16, worked on the land for a time and then began training to become a state registered nurse at Freedom Fields Hospital, Plymouth, in 1952. Apart from time out to have their two children, she continued nursing until 1991. She was well known in Saltash and district as the first school nurse in Cornwall to serve local schools. The couple have a daughter, Sharon Gallagher, who lives in Saltash, and a son, Clinton, who lives in Fleet, Hampshire. Clifford and Jenefer have four grandchildren, Stephen, Zoe, Jack and Sam.
