St Blazey 6 Keynsham Town 0

The League System table says that the Screwfix Direct Premier League is two levels above the Carlsberg South Western League but Saturday's results certainly made a mockery of that. Keynsham are well placed in the top half of that league but they went the same way as several of their Screwfix colleagues when meeting opposition from the Carlsberg. While Bodmin Town were winning 1-0 at reigning champions Bideford and Liskeard were gaining a credible draw at Bridgwater, Blazey were annihilating their opponents, who could not deal with the pace of St Blazey's front two of Steve Ovens and Glynn Hooper. Keynsham's only chance of the game came in the first minute and after that little was seen of them as an attacking force as they were too busy trying to defend. Five minutes had passed when Blazey opened their account in their second attack of the game. Ovens was unceremoniously bundled over when in full flight for Justin Harrington to fire home a trademark free kick from 20 yards. Hooper was then denied by the legs of visiting goalkeeper Amin Jones before Blazey added their second after 14 minutes. Ovens received the ball out wide on the left to cut inside, at pace, to sweep the ball across for Mark Vercesi to sweep the ball home from six yards. Vercesi fired over the bar after Hooper had set him up on the edge of the area before Blazey took their foot off the pedal. It was only a short reprieve for Keynsham as Blazey upped the tempo after the interval needing just three minutes to effectively sow up the tie with a third goal. Ovens displayed clever footwork before slipping but he had the prescence of mind to regain possession to set up Hooper to lash the ball home from eight yards. To make matters worse for Keynsham they had central defender Steve Jones sent off for lashing out at Hooper in the area giving Harrington the chance to score his second of the game from the penalty spot. With the game won Blazey began to relax but even then they took time out two score two more goals in a two minute spell with the first coming after 71 minutes. Harrington sent in a great pass to Hooper who raced on to fire low past Jones. The Blazey top scorer did not need any help in completing his hat trick a minute later as he unleashed a terrific left-footed drive from 20 yards. By now Keynsham were completely demoralised and Blazey could have added to their already impressive tally but the fans were more than satisfied at the final whistle as yet another team from a superior league had been crushed at Blaise Park.
