Cornwall Senior Cup semi-final Bodmin 2 Saltash 5 (aet) THE Ashes bounced back from last weekend's first defeat in 24 games to deservedly claim a place in the Cornwall Senior Cup final, although they required extra time to achieve their aims. Kevin Hendy's side appeared to have completed the task in normal time after building themselves a two-goal advantage inside the first 49 minutes, but Bodmin hit back with two goals from former Liskeard wing-back Huw Morgan to force the tie into extra time. But that was when Saltash's superior fitness told and they easily, and deservedly, secured an Easter Monday appearance, against either Falmouth Town or Truro City, by scoring three more times. It had all seemed so easy as the Ashes took an 11th-minute lead when Toby Clark's throw-in was flicked on by Glen Palmer for Daley Simpson to fire home from the edge of the area. Saltash were in the driving seat in the early stages, but as the half wore on, it was Bodmin who got stronger and the game entered a niggly spell, with a spate of four bookings in only three minutes. Life looked good for the Ashes when they doubled their lead on 49 minutes when Tony Bouch sent Kevin Miller the wrong way from the penalty spot after Nick Campbell had tripped Clark in the area. Bodmin threw themselves a life-line three minutes later when a high ball from Shaun Manley found Ashes 'keeper Chris Wearing hesitating for Morgan to nip in and shoot home. The game was in the very last minute of normal time when Steve Ovens had a shot blocked, but the ball fell kindly for Morgan to grab his second of the night and send the tie into extra time. Saltash quickly shrugged off their disappointment to regain the lead with the goal of the game after only three minutes of the extra period. A cracking 60-yard Mark Chapman pass was superbly controlled by Gavin Coulton with his first touch, before he coolly slid the ball under the diving Miller with his second. Seven minutes later, the tie was as good as won as good work on the left by Danny Lewis saw him find Steve Sargison on the edge of the box, and his shot took a deflection off Leigh Underhay to loop over the stranded Miller. The icing was put on the Ashes cake in the last minute as Palmer's throw-in found substitute Marc Thorne slipping his shot under Miller to complete the scoring and seal a place in that final.
