An art exhibition which ‘sends out a powerful and current global message’ will be unveiled at Stuart House on May 21.
In ‘Changes 2018’, Laurie Scott, a local artist well-known for her book illustrations and semi-abstract art, will be showing her first ‘Hexaptych’, a glow in the dark, large format piece involving six multi-textured recycled panels displayed on a dark backdrop of space with dramatic music to set the mood.
She said: ‘It depicts sections of our Earth in orbit, from the time of the formation of the planets through until today, charting an unpredictable future, depending on our actions right now.
‘The painted surfaces have been taken over by colourful layers, the rest of space peppered with stars and ’junk’, cogs, nuts and found objects.
‘Space Junk is highly influenced by the late, great Stephen Hawking, who said “We are in danger of destroying ourselves by our own greed and stupidity; we cannot remain looking inwards at ourselves on a small and increasingly polluted and overpopulated planet”.’
The exhibition is free and open between 9.30am and 3.30pm daily from May 21 to Saturday, May 26 (the Saturday is 9.30am - 6pm).
