AN EXHIBITION at the Liskeard and District Museum tells the story of Liskeard Bowling Club as the club celebrates its centenary year. The club was founded in 1914 – just as Europe was engulfed by the First World War – but recovered and thrived, with continuing success to this day. 'The early years were dominated by the men's game, but following the Second World War the women began to assert themselves,' said museum curator Anna Monks. 'The names on the trophies and photographs recall many past and present residents. Keen bowlers will love to see the beautiful lignum vitae woods – and the changing costumes.' Current club president Derek Turner welcomed John Rapson to the opening of the exhibition. It was John Rapson's grandfather, Lewis Rapson, who purchased the land for the green, founded the club and became its inaugural president. Mr Turner congratulated members past and present for keeping the club going to its centenary.
