St Blazey's new first team manager, Glyn Hooper, has moved fast to appoint his assistant for the coming season in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League.

Hooper has chosen Phil Lafferty, who returns to Blaise Park only a year after departing from the club for a short period at St Austell.

'Phil is a local businessman who also has many local contacts in the game and, like myself, knows everything there is to know about St Blazey Football Club,' announced Hooper.

Hooper also revealed that he was not looking to have a mass clear-out at Blaise Park and everyone involved with last season will be given ample opportunity to stake a claim for the coming campaign.

'I'm not looking to oust anyone from the football club and I will be talking to all the players that the club retained. That happens to be everyone except Fergus Nevin who, for personal reasons, could not play for the club next season.

'The invitation to those players will be to take part in our pre-season, along with the obvious local players we have targeted, as Phil and I have sat down and formulated a 'wish list' and the phones will be red hot from June 1 onwards,' he explained

The month of June is open season for transfers as players can request to be de-registered from a club's retained list and become a free agent to sign for another team without the customary seven days' notice of approach, which will apply after that period.

Hooper is aware of the size of the task facing him and Lafferty, saying: 'One of the challenges of going back to St Blazey is trying to rebuild it as a community club. It appears to have lost that a little in the past couple of years and hopefully we will be successful in that task as success on the pitch will follow as a consequence.

'We ask the fans to be patient as success, in what will be a very strong league, will not come overnight, but any success we do get will come as a result of hard work and organisation,' concluded a clearly enthusiastic Hooper.
