South East Cornwall stargazers are leading a showcase event for Bodmin Moor’s night skies - recently designated an International Dark Sky Landscape.
Caradon and Tolcarn Observatories have teamed up to stage an astronomy event at Jamaica Inn on Saturday, August 19.
The event is one of a series showcasing the quality of the night sky over Bodmin Moor, which won its designation after a successful bid by Cornwall Council and Caradon Observatory.
The free stargazing session at 8.30pm is open to everyone.
It’s preceded by a dinner (at £16 per person) which will include an introduction to Bodmin Moor’s International Dark Sky designation and talks on exoplanets and the solar system’s giant planets by Grant Mackintosh and Mike Willmott, who are both Fellows of the Royal Astronomical Association.
To book a place at the dinner event, ring Jamaica Inn on 01566 86250. There’s no need to book for the free stargazing from 8.30pm.
