NEXT week a dedicated volunteer from within the Scout movement will be starting an epic 1,500-mile walk from Land's End to John

o'Groats.

Adam Dawson, 55, who sets out on Monday, and hopes to finish the walk in early July, is undertaking the challenge to raise funds to help Scouts from across the UK who have been selected to take part in the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan in 2015.

Of the 27 scouts chosen to represent Cornwall at the Jamboree, at least seven are from the South East Cornwall area. They all had to take part in an application process which culminated in an intensive selection weekend held at Siblyback Lake.

Explorer Scout Kate-Marie Martin, 15, from Torpoint, who is going to the jamboree said: 'I am really excited about the massive walk that Adam is doing to ensure that young people less fortunate than me can attend.

'Scouting is all about adventure, fun and challenge, regardless of your financial circumstances.

'I can't wait to meet him when he walks through Cornwall. He is an inspiration to everyone involved in scouting.'
