DESPITE the difficult times in agriculture, livestock entries for this year's Liskeard show at Merrymeet on July 8 are up on l999 figures.

Cattle entries number 184, which is 20 more than last year, Holsteins being in the lead with 38 entered.

The sheep section is also well supported, with 270 entries, with a strong showing of Texels and Suffolks.

Horse and pony classes will see 350 entries, which have also risen, with 26 entries in the donkey section. There will be the usual extensive and varied display in the domestic marquee, with the cookery and Young Farmers classes well supported.

Trade stands around the showground, in the fields at Trengrove Farm, will number l00, and will be exhibiting everything from cars to tractors and plants to country clothing.

There will be a marquee full of crafts, while new to the main ring programme for 2000 will be an 'It's a Knockout' competition in which village teams will compete for a first prize of £100.
